In 1923, Cornelis van Eesteren realized a dyke house for the widow A. van Zessen in Alblasserdam with colour schemes by Theo van Doesburg. He designed a simple functional house, without superfluous decorations and with a flat roof. During its construction, Van Eesteren was in Paris where he and Van Doesburg were preparing an exhibition on De Stijl at Salon Rosenberg. In the exterior, the colours relate diagonally in a ‘destructive’ scheme; inside, their application is constructive and emphasizes the space. In the early 1990s, the house was fully restored by the Van Eesteren-Fluck & Van Lohuizen
Foundation, reinstating the original colours and fitting it out as a museum
house.
