G.TH. RIETVELD, 1961-1963, Hollandseweg 362, Wageningen
ARCHITECT(URAL OFFICE):
Gerrit Rietveld
ASSISTING ARCHITECT:
Joan van Dillen
ARCHITECT(URAL OFFICE):
Rietveld Van Dillen Van Tricht
BUILDING TYPE:
Freestanding houses
This house places a taller volume of entrance, living room and kitchen between two less-tall wings. Behind the garage in the west wing is a greenhouse built by the owner for his collection of orchids. The east wing is given over to bedrooms. A striking feature is the gentle inflection halfway along this oblong block, an inflection also made by the greenhouse. As a result the terrace enfolded by these deviating volumes opens up to the garden at the rear. Blue and red window frames and a blue garage door enliven the white brick of the frontage.
