ARCHITECT(URAL OFFICE):
Herman Haan

BUILDING TYPE:
Freestanding houses

This house is configured as two rectangular volumes linked at right angles. A two-storey block containing the bedrooms and service rooms is joined by a double-height stair hall to a living room block on the upper storey overlooking the waters of Bergse Voorplas. The originally cantilevered part of the latter block is now supported by a red-painted steel portal. The roofed terrace beneath the living room block regrettably has been built in; for the rest, this house is still an eloquent example of the optimistic architecture of Rotterdam's post-war reconstruction.
