This extension assimilates a building from 1941 with a distinctive facade. The lion’s share of the new-build consists of an elongated facilities block which, hovering above an expanse of concrete, doubles as a link between two office wings set square to it around a severely ordered courtyard. Though the super-sleek and sharply detailed building - reduced as it is to steel, concrete and glass - oozes quiet and contemplation, the play of light and the orchestrated circulation routes and shifts in alignment are by contrast dynamic.
