This office building, sited between the railway and the tree-lined watercourses around the centre of Steenwijk, registers as a freestanding villa in a green setting. The spatial composition consists of a series of parallel concrete slabs set at right angles to those on the floors above and below like a house of cards. All public zones are on the ground floor to both sides of a main hall slicing lengthwise through the building as its spatial spine. The concrete structure has been left in view both inside and out; all infills between the strips of concrete are of wood and glass.
