Special accommodation
The difference in outward appearance between the two long facades of this block derives from its contents: houses with artists' studios. Former artist tenants include Jan Wolkers, Charlotte van Pallandt and Fred Carasso. On the south side are six storeys of housing as against four of studios on the north side. The difference in height between housing and studios is taken up by alternating small dwelling units (one storey) with larger, two-storey units. The structure consists of a fully integrated steel frame. The studio houses were restored in 1990 by the architect Bertus Mulder, retaining the original exterior wherever possible.
