A multifarious network of spaces for diners clusters round the central kitchen and food issue of the student restaurant for the Technical University. Basic units, each of a square vertical core (staircase or service shaft) framed by four 'fields', interlink to form a complex structure in precast concrete. A mezzanine links floors vertically, creating a spatially complex entity. The square cores are represented in the facade by lozenge-shaped turrets. De Bastille was renovated in 2004. A larger space was scooped out of the building's heart, the entrance was refurbished and windows were inserted in the roof to allow in more daylight.
