The predominantly suburban and monofunctional focus of the Vinex district of
Ypenburg now has an urban counterpart at its core: a retail centre with sundry shops and services and a number of apartment complexes. The nine perimeter blocks sit well with the surrounding urban fabric. Shops, a sports hall and local sociocultural facilities stand along a main street running north-south. The dwellings in the perimeter blocks are reached from galleries on the inner side. Nine slender residential towers spread throughout the area terminate in glass structures that act as light sculptures at night. The blocks have a concrete plinth and brickwork bands which step back five centimetres at each ascending storey.
