Jan Wils spent the 1920s working in a style inspired by that of Frank Lloyd Wright. This would create quite a following in The Hague as the ‘new Hague school’ of architecture, whose members included Co Brandes, Hendrik Wouda and Frans Lourijsen. In 1925 Wils collaborated with Lourijsen on a luxury apartment building on Jozef Israëlsplein. This residential hotel with its lively composition of cubic volumes is illustrated in the 1927 anniversary issue of De Stijl. Mauvestraat 56 was the private house of Lourijssen
