This ‘house of culture and administration’ is the result of upscaling the existing town hall by combining town hall, library and theatre in a single volume wrapped round a courtyard garden. Executed in a monumental architecture, the ensemble utterly transcends the village-like setting of Nijverdal. Armed with a robust series of brick barrel vaults, it takes up one side of the main square. These vaults and the fair-faced brickwork of the facades are continued in the interior where they unify what are disparate duties housed individually in staggered volumes. Like the front facade, the main hall is of grand proportions and boasts an attractive winding staircase. The marriage room, an atypical element inserted on the upper floor, was designed by artist Claudy Jongstra.
