The WOS 8 heat transfer station extracts waste heat from the cooling water of the nearby electric power station, enough to heat every house in Leidsche Rijn. It is a sealed oblong entirely clad with modified polyurethane. A transparent board supporting a basketball net in the north facade is the building’s only window. A hole in the south facade discharges rainwater and balls that land on the roof. The east facade has a pattern of reflective road studs. The pattern of climbing grips in the west facade spells out a text in Braille. Just under the edge of the roof are nesting boxes for swallows and places for bats to hang.
