Housing

Inspired by Ebenezer Howard's garden city idea and the collectivist principles of socialism, Van Loghem designed several neighbourhoods in Haarlem between 1917 and 1923 (see also Tuinwijk-Zuid. This one of 130 workers' dwellings with three shops and a community centre constitutes the first of these plans to be realized in its entirety. The site left little room for courts and strips of greenspace. Its architecture is rectangular with flat roofs, and anything but rural.
