Housing 2e Katendrechtsehaven (DKV)
Most of the commercial and industrial buildings on the peninsula of Katendrecht were demolished at the turn of the millennium. The freed areas are to be developed with 1300 new dwellings which will double the population of this district. The first to be built are housing projects by Maccreanor Lavington and DKV. The low-rise portion designed by this English practice, domiciled in Rotterdam following a Europan competition, consists of 36 back-to-back dwellings with lean-to roofs, hemmed in by four-storey residential blocks containing single-family units and maisonettes. The large red bricks are glued instead of laid in mortar beds.
